Experience Matters

There are an increasing number of patients seeking sedation and anesthesia in outpatient clinics and dental offices. The safety of patients in these settings is vital. The challenges of safety will increase with special populations such as obesity, difficult airways, pediatric and elderly patients. The ultimate way to provide safe care is to have a dedicated provider giving the sedation and/or anesthesia.

  • Our anesthesia practitioners are vigilant about the monitoring, safety and care of each patient so providers can give optimum care.

  • Our anesthesia providers have been educated and trained to possess the skills necessary to deliver safe and effective anesthesia in all care settings including hospital, outpatient, and dental offices.

  • We will maintain the dignity, privacy, and autonomy each patient deserves under our care. We will provide the safety needed when administering anesthesia.

  • We will perform or verify a pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient. This evaluation will include patient’s history with anesthesia, any allergies, medication history, preexisting conditions, relevant tests, and assessment of overall health. This evaluation will guide the anesthesia plan of care.

  • We will form a plan of care that is specific to each patient. The patient has a right to know care options and discuss any concerns.

  • We will verify that anesthesia services are being done in a manner to satisfy institutional policy, pertinent laws, and accreditation standards. Informed consent will be documented.

  • We will maintain equipment that follows manufacturers instructions. A daily equipment check will be performed.

  • We will implement and modify the anesthesia plan while assessing patient response to anesthetic during our care.

  • We will keep all documentation of vital signs every five minutes while patient is being treated with anesthetic. These vital signs will include at least: respiration, heart rate and blood pressure along with continual monitoring of oxygenation.

  • We will monitor the patient’s status and transfer care once it is appropriate and there is a qualified healthcare provider to take over care. Communicate with healthcare staff, appointed care taker, and patient in regards to patient’s status and response to anesthetic. Assure that there will be continuity of proper care.

  • We will create a culture of trust and support with our partnerships and patients through communication, safety and engagement.

All anesthesia providers are current members of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) in order to maintain their education and remain up to date in all practices.

All anesthesia providers working for Babinsky Anesthesia Associates carry their own malpractice insurance.
